The two-stage Vodafone<\/a> Speedtest Plus<\/a> enables customers in the Group's cable network to check the speed of the line up to the terminal device and, in a second phase, up to the modem. With immediate effect, all customers can use this service thanks to the successful completion of the migration and test phase. Thanks to a new app, Speedtest Plus can also be used for the first time via Apple<\/a> TV to be carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unitymedia has been offering the two-stage Speedtest Plus in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg since 2018, and although Vodafone has already acquired Unitymedia in autumn 2019, the migration of the service required until early 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two-stage speed measurement at Vodafone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the first section of the Speedtest Plus, Vodafone determines the speed up to the customer's end device. Computers, notebooks, tablets, smartphones and the Apple TV can be used. If the speed booked in the tariff is reached, the speed test is considered successfully completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troubleshooting in the second step<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If there is a significant deviation between the booked and the achieved speed, the Speedtest Plus goes into the second stage. Here, the speed of the line up to the cable modem is determined. This is to investigate whether the insufficient speed in the first section of the speed measurement is due to the customer's network or the cable line from Vodafone to the modem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Vodafone, the Speedtest Plus is primarily aimed at customers with very fast Internet connections, where the respective end device or the customer's network can become the bottleneck. If it is found that it is not Vodafone but the customer's infrastructure that is responsible for the low speed, individual solution options such as optimizing the WLAN are suggested after the measurement is completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Streaming with 80 Mbit\/s at Sony<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to Vodafone, private users use high data rates primarily to Streaming<\/a>. The company has therefore developed a new speed test for the Speedtest Plus. Apple TV App<\/a> developed. Announcements such as Sony's Bravia Core, which allows streaming at UHD Blu-ray level with up to 80 Mbit\/s, will increase bandwidth requirements in the future.
