.id The domain for Indonesia

The Indonesian domain .id is a country specific top level domain. The domain was introduced on 27 February 1993 and has been considered an active domain ever since. It is administered by the registry PANDI.

In 2014 the possibility of registration at the level of the second level domain became possible. Up to this point, it was only possible to output domains at the third level. There are 11 second-level domains for the .id domain, whereby the variants my and web and biz are in principle accessible to the public.
The second level domain ac is used by academic institutions, while sch is used for regional schools. Especially for Islamic boarding schools the second level domain ponpes can be assigned.

For individuals or informal institutions the second level domain web is used. The domains my and biz are also permitted. For formal organisations or companies the second level domains co and or are used.

The following second-level domains are excluded from the allocation for the public
- net, which is attributed exclusively to the Internet Service Provider,
- mil, which is reserved for armed forces
- go, which is reserved for the government of the country
- and desa that is intended for the 72,944 villages of Indonesia with local autonomy.

The second level domain desa has been permitted since 11 March 2013.

Special features for corporate websites

While there are no conditions to be fulfilled for the registration of web, biz and my under the .id domain, at least one of two conditions must be fulfilled for a co.id domain. Either the applicant must be an Indonesian company or the trademark must be registered in Indonesia. Regardless of which of the two points is fulfilled, it is imperative that a physical presence in Indonesia can be proven. This means, for example, that it can be the headquarters of the company, a branch office or a sales representative. If this is not the case, the registration under the second level domain co is rejected by the registry.

Indonesia, with its capital Jakarta, has been an independent republic since August 1945. The island state consists of a total of 17,508 islands and ranks fourth among the most populous states in the world. A total of 264 million people live here. More than half of all inhabitants live on the island of Java, which is also the capital. Java is the second largest island in Indonesia after Sumatra. Geographically, it is located in Southeast Asia and belongs partly to Asia and partly to Australia. The archipelago borders on Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor.
