The Amazon Web Services (AWS) are intended to provide various services in the most user-friendly way possible, in order to Cloud to be able to address a broad user base. Recently, therefore, among other things, a new Chaos Engineering-The new function enables even smaller companies to test their infrastructure in simulated extreme situations. Now follows with the new Cloudshell another feature that allows to access the command line of the cloud instances directly via browser.
Command line tools little used
Amazon has offered a command line tool for quite some time, but many customers do not use it. According to Amazon's announcement, small bug fixes and configuration changes can be done much faster via the shell.
Amazon cites the complex configuration of the tool as the reason for the low use of the command line tools offered so far. Keys and accesses are required for this, which have to be managed separately. According to Amazon, the high complexity ensures that the command line tool can only be integrated into many workflows in a disruptive manner.
Preconfigured Cloudshell
The new cloud shell, on the other hand, is much easier to use because it is already preconfigured. To use it, an AWS customer simply needs to log into their normal management interface, from where they can use the shell directly in the browser.
Amazon's own Linux distribution serves as the technical basis. In addition to the Amazon CLI, this also offers further tools and packages, for example for Python and Node.js. Up to 1 GByte of files can be stored in the cloudshell.
