The ending .gay comes from the English word for "homosexual".
Usually gay men use this term, but there are also lesbian women who use the term to express their form of same-sex love.

What for a few centuries was considered a euphemism for something positive that was not related to homosexuality, tilted from the 19th century and now also described negative aspects, as well as the previously mentioned same-sex orientation.

Then as now, it happens again and again that people are persecuted, discriminated against, punished or even killed because of their sexuality.
People who are averse or aggressive towards lesbian or gay people are called homophobes and in everyday life opponents of the rainbow scene meet their supporters again and again and express their hatred verbally or physically.
Even if laws or more tolerance try to protect people with sexualities different from heterosexual, many gays and lesbians live in constant fear and danger of discrimination.

Organizations are working to ensure the well-being of those at risk and provide shelter or jobs to protect them.
But since not everyone has access to support organizations and is forced to keep their sexuality secret, many people take refuge in the Internet and in forums where they can exchange ideas with like-minded people and feel understood, because often there is no contact person in the immediate family circle.

Thanks to globalization, more and more people can join together to form a community and communicate that they are not alone.
Diversity is celebrated online, just as it is in many cities around the world on Christopher Street Day (abbreviated CSD), when supporters of the LGBT scene celebrate, commemorate and demonstrate.

As great as the diversity of people with different sexual orientations is, so is the diversity of topics that can be talked about.
