vn-domain Domain

The domain extension .vn is the country-specific top-level domain (ccTLD) from Vietnam. The address was introduced in Vietnam on April 14, 1994. The Ministry of Information and Communications of Socialist Republic of Vietnam (or VNNIC for short) is responsible for the domain.
Vietnam is a socialist republic in South-East Asia. It borders China, Laos, Cambodia and various seas. The country with the capital Hanoi has almost 100 million inhabitants, with a strong upward trend.
In the beginning the top level domain was rather restrictive. For example, only residents of Vietnam could use such a domain ending for their own website and foreigners had to choose another ending.
Second level domains have also been possible since 2005. Possible and used second level domains are:

biz. for other companies
edu. for schools and other educational institutions
gov. for the government
net. for other online services
org. for cultural, political and social activities
int. International organizations
ac. for research purposes
name. for individuals on the Internet
health. for medical purposes
info. for the creation or provision of information

The domain extension has about half a million registered pages at the beginning of 2020. Due to steady technical improvements in Southeast Asia and the rest of the world as well as the increasing population of Vietnam, more and more websites with the domain extension .vn are created. On average, about 10,000 pages with the .vn address are created on the World Wide Web in one month.
Anyone may register one .vn domain extension. There is no need to have a residence or a branch in the Vietnamese state for this. The unrestricted allocation is done by an automated system. Such a registration takes on average no longer than three working days. However, no domain names from the pornographic area can be registered, because pornographic sites are not allowed in Vietnam. Thus, no foreign persons can create a pornographic website with the domain .vn.
