Although Amazon Web Services (AWS) sits alongside Google and Microsoft among the biggest Cloud-services, the company has hardly been represented in traditional industry to date. A series of new services with the support of artificial intelligence (AI), which have been developed specifically for manufacturing, should soon change this. AWS should thus open up another source of revenue alongside customers in the software sector.
Probably the most relevant product for factories is the new Amazon Monitron Device. It is a compact computer that can be used with machine learning services based on the new Trainium-Chip could be based, sensors and gateways are connected. Among other things, the technology should be able to independently detect deviations in machine processes such as vibrations or the threat of overheating and warn maintenance personnel. According to Amazon, the maintenance of the systems can thus be optimized.
Lookout for Equipment transfers data to the cloud
Amazon also has the service Lookout for Equipment which enables customers with existing sensors to simply transfer the collected data to the cloud and analyze it there using machine learning models. As with Amazon Monitron, deviations of the machines from normal operation are to be detected at an early stage.
Automated image recognition via Panorama Appliance
The Panorama Appliances have also been specially developed for the needs of industrial customers. It is a technology for automated image recognition that uses existing camera and surveillance systems and evaluates their image data in the Amazon Cloud.
According to Amazon, "Each AWS Panorama appliance can run computer vision models in parallel on multiple camera streams, enabling use cases such as quality control, part capture, and workplace safety."
In Germany, Panorama Appliances will be of limited use due to the possible monitoring of employees and the resulting data protection and employee rights problems.
In order to promote the distribution of Panorama Appliances, Amazon has developed AWS Panorama Device SDK published with the hardware manufacturers can produce cameras that communicate directly with the machine learning models of the system. In combination with the Lookout for Vision service Lookout for Vision camera images can thus be evaluated in the cloud practically in real time.
Artificial intelligence improves Amazon Web Services
Using the example of service QuickSight Q it is also clear that Amazon is increasingly improving its own services through the use of AI. With QuickSight Q, this approach provides new insights into the classic Business Intelligence. Amazon customers can use the service, for example, to search and analyze their data using natural language. In many cases, a simple question is all it takes to use QuickSight Q instead of tables and stats manually.
Soon the service devop guru Support Amazon customers via AI. The system automatically informs development and operations teams about problems. In addition, the AI independent propose approaches to solutions. According to Amazon, the machine learning model used for this is based on the experience the company has gained in operating its cloud hosting platform.
