Everstream expands fiber network in 7 Midwest markets to support 5G

To connect more than 2,000 macrocell sites, Everstream is expanding its Fiber Optics out in seven Midwest markets to support the launch of 5G to support.

Totaling more than 1,000 route miles, the new fiber additions will serve Fort Wayne and South Bend, Indiana. Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky; and Cincinnati, Dayton and Toledo, Ohio. The network builds are part of Everstream's plan to deploy up to 3,000 new route miles of fiber in its Midwest footprint by 2021.

As part of its Midwest fiber expansion strategy, Everstream built more than 2,000 route miles of new fiber last year while adding to its fiber footprint through acquisitions.

Fiber is a key element in enabling backhaul and fronthual for 5G services. Last year, Everstream announced that it was one of four fiber companies providing fiber for Dish Network's 5G service. Dish expects to have some small preliminary 5G markets available in the first quarter of this year before launching the first major 5G market in the third quarter of 2021.

"Demand for 5G services is just beginning and will require high-capacity fiber networks to support this growth," said Everstream Chief Executive Officer and President Brett Lindsey. "By designing and building new fiber networks in these markets, we will support wireless carriers' 5G initiatives and help enterprises in the years ahead," he added with further confidence.

Everstream delivers fiber from the core network to the cell tower at over 100 Gbit/s. This gives operators the flexibility they need to scale their networks as demand increases.

As part of its Midwest fiber expansion strategy, Everstream built more than 2,000 route miles of new fiber last year while adding to its fiber base through acquisitions. In 2020, Everstream invested more than $300 million to expand its fiber network to more than 15,000 route miles in the Midwest.

This year, Everstream plans to spend more than $47 million on network growth. A total of 1,047 route miles are planned across the seven markets. Everstream's network includes more than 15,000 route miles of fiber. It plans to add 2,000 to 3,000 route miles per year over the next several years. In addition, strategic acquisitions are being considered as part of the build-and-buy strategy

AMP Capital, a global investment firm headquartered in Australia, bought Everstream in 2018, since then the company has become part of the large group and has even more potential to grow. All signs are good and due to the pandemic, the request for quick Internet increased immensely. This will certainly also promote expansion. The forecasts are very good and exceed all expectations, but whether they can maintain this trend will be seen in the coming months.
