It should be sufficiently well known that it would be virtually negligent to use the same password for all password-protected logon procedures on the Internet without exception, as well as in programs and in the computer operating system or similar. The only problem is that, if you were in doubt, you would have to remember countless passwords. Fortunately, there are now so-called password managers that allow you to manage all your passwords very easily and, above all, absolutely securely. Among the best known managers are StickyPassword, RoboForm, LastPass, the Kaspersky Password Manager, KeePass Password Safe, Password Depot, 1Password, Norten Identity Safe, Simple & Secure Password Safe and Steganos Password Manager. In the following comparison of password managers, you can find out the exact differences between the ten password managers and the advantages or potential disadvantages.

StickyPassword

StickyPassword is a very good password manager at a fair price, with a variety of thoroughly practical browser add-ons. A special feature of StickyPassword is that it comes with many easy-to-understand instructional videos and tutorials in text form, which show StickyPassword password manager users exactly what the many add-ons offer and how to use them best. Unfortunately, StickyPassword is not compatible with Linux or Windows Phone.

RoboForm

RoboForm is a convincing password manager that also comes with many browser add-ons, but only follows relatively weak password policies. It is also slightly more expensive than the StickyPassword Password Manager. On the other hand, RoboForm scores with a record-breakingly fast and competent e-mail support and a very user-friendly client.

LastPass

LastPass impresses with a very reasonable price and an almost intuitive handling directly in the browser. The password manager LastPass deserves further praise for its unspeakably practical transfer function, which allows all old passwords to be directly transferred. The disadvantage is, however, that there is no offline client. It should also be pointed out that users have to do without a lifetime license for the Password Manager, which is not necessarily a disadvantage.

Kaspersky Password Manager

Kaspersky Password Manager is priced exactly between the password managers LastPass and StickyPassword in terms of its annual license. This is despite the fact that the license also covers mobile use in addition to normal use. In addition, email support may be a bit slower, but overall it is still better than with RoboForm password manager. However, Kaspersky Password Manager does not offer add-ons for Safari/Opera or a lifetime license.

KeePass Password Safe

The KeePass Password Safe is one of the few successful password managers that can be used absolutely free of charge. Corresponding to the price, the design of the Password Safe is somewhat puristic or spartanic, which can clearly benefit the ease of use. At least the program interface is not as cluttered as with some other password managers. Less nice, however, is the fact that there are no automatic Updates for the KeePass Password Safe.

Password Depot

Compared to other password managers Password Depot is very expensive. However, it also offers mobile apps for Android, Windows Phone and iOS. And this although Password Depot is officially only compatible with Windows. Unfortunately, Password Depot shows some weaknesses in automatic password filling and e-mail support, at least in relation to the price.

1Password

The Password Manager 1Password is again much more expensive than Password Depot. In return, users receive a visually appealing client and a very practical browser add-on. Furthermore, 1Password recognizes duplicate passwords. What is incomprehensible, however, is that users are not offered e-mail support despite the high price and that 1Password is also prone to errors when it is filled out automatically.

Norten Identity Safe

The Norten Identity Safe is a free password manager, which can only be used under Windows and where the users have to do without email support, but which can convince with a successful client and good master password guidelines.

Simple & Secure Password Safe

Simple & Secure Password Safe is also a completely free password manager that can be used both under Windows and with Mac and Linux and also has a very simple structure. It is a pity that it cannot be used by teams and that there are no browser add-ons.

Steganos Password Manager

Steganos is a quite satisfying password manager at a fair price, which is equipped with a successful PicPass system, a virtual keyboard and throughout practical browser Widgets but does not work with Linux or Mac and unfortunately can only be used for browser passwords.
